On 17th July 2008, The Minster School will be holding its 3rd Summer Carnival. The event is an end of year celebration for the whole school community and is organised by the school in partnership with the Minster School Parents Teacher Association.
Daytime Activities
During the school day, students will be taking part in a range of inter-house activities including; ‘It’s a Knock Out’, a Football Tournament, Treasure Hunt and a wide range of musical events; Karaoke, Human Beat Boxing, Battle of the Bands and a guest appearance from the school staff Band ‘School of Rock’. In addition, the school is hosting its own version of the TV game show Play Your Cards Right, with students competing for their house with the school’s very own Bruce Forsythe and his able assistants. Students will be able to win house points for taking part in all of the events and at the end of the day, one House will be crowned Summer Carnival Champions 2008.

Olympic Theme
In addition to these events, each House will be hosting their own House Zone. This year, we have chosen the Olympics as the overarching theme. The Olympic rings represent the 5 different continental areas, (with one ring for the Americas) and the rings also reflect the House colours for the four houses in school, with the black ring used to represent the Junior Department. Each ‘Zone’ will have music, food, dress and decoration representing their respective geographical area and students will be encouraged to visit and spend time in each of the house zones at some point during the day.
Fundraising
Students are being asked to collect sponsor money for participating in events. The school is using this year’s Summer Carnival as the final major fundraising activity relating to the £450,000 that the school needed to raise in order to secure the reminder of the funds for the fantastic new facilities that have been such a great success this academic year. We hope that we shall be able to raise most of the remaining £13000 in the one day.
There will be some fantastic prizes on offer to students who return sponsor forms - iPods are available for those who raise the most funds in each House as well as all returned sponsor forms being put into a draw to win a hand held PC. These prizes have been kindly donated by Research Machines and the school is still looking for other individuals or organisations to donate prizes to this exciting event.
Evening Events
In the evening, the school will be open to the wider school community where a series of events will be taking place. These include; an open entry It’s a Knock Out event, where teams of 8 can enter into the event and an outdoor music concert on the schools’ amphitheatre, with a BBQ and bar. In addition, families are invited to submit entries into a competition based on the TV game show ‘Family Fortunes’. It is hoped that families will b enter teams of 5 people to compete for the title “Minster School Family Fortunes Winners 2008”.
Invitation to come along
The school would be delighted to see past and present students and their parents coming along to the evening event. Information on how to obtain tickets (which will be free in advance) and how to enter events will soon be made available on the schools website at www.minster.notts.sch.uk/carnival
