Ism's from Across the Pond
We may complain about the electoral system in the UK but can you imagine having months of it as they do in the States ? I have to confess though that I am finding this particular election fascinating. I love the sheer exhuberance and enthusiasm that is shown by the voters – the interest in what is going on is so much greater than here.
It's also fascinating to watch the propoganda elements but the lack of focus on policies is very odd to watch. So what do the current frontrunners have going for them ? It seems that the negative “ism”focus of racism against Barack Obama, sexism against Hilary Clinton (and the joint Clinton package deal ) and the ageism against John McCain seem to get far more focus than the policies that they stand for.
Also fascinating is the decision not to take part in the early stages which puts former front runner Rudi out of the picture... people do not like to be ignored and minimised in the process. With Super Tuesday results by tomorrow, we'll know much more about how the land lies.
Whatever you think of the States, there is no doubt that their enthusiasm and commitment is clear to fly their support for their candidates – more enthusiasm for issues and politics would not go amiss here also.
On a more local level, it's great to see those spring flowers beginning to emerge – the first sight of Snowdrops in the spring is always special even if the Trent and the Greet were threatening to engulf them all at one stage !
Happy leap year – make the most of it if you females want to pop the question and here's to you all for a super February.
