Mothers Day Muse
I have to confess that Mothers' Day is my favourite day of the year. Better than my birthday which can fall on weekdays and a reminder of the passing years although I am a strong believer in attitude being more important than physical age. Better than Christmas as there is no preparation before hand. As a working mother, I have no guilt whatsoever about being totally lazy and will accept any treats and pampering on Mothers' Day which is great as it always falls on a Sunday so great for a lie -in, breakfast in bed and listening to the Archers omnibus in peace.
My girls, I have to say, are very sweet and really go out of their way to make it special. My husband does go out and help them do this; bless him, but after 25 years together, I have singularly failed to get him to appreciate how much nice flowers mean ( NOT ones bought at the last minute in a garage if you're lucky
...).
I saw a lovely quote today ( thank you A. Pearson ) who quoted “ It's a wise woman who said : “I meant to be the ideal mother, but I was too busy bringing up my children.” I can really empathise with this as I'm sure many others will do.
To all those women out there who have not yet had children including any of you who took the leap year perogative to propose, I would like to share my favourite quote about motherhood which came from one of my all time favourite shows, Frasier. He famously said to his show producer; Ros, who was panicking about how she would cope with her unplanned pregnancy words along the lines of “ You don't love your children, you fall in love with them” which is the best decription I have ever heard.
So to end this rather girly muse, here's an ode to mother's day...
They make you laugh
They make you mad
They change your life forever
You dedicate
Your lives to them
You'll always be their carer
The love you get
The joy you share
Makes Mum the best job ever
