POLITICS AND NOT SO EASY JET
It's almost half term so MP's have finally finished their summer holidays and about to go back to parliament. The highlight of the party conference season for me was the will they / won't they have a three party leader live debate prior to the next election. Watching the body language as well as the politics of such events is really interesting especially the eye movements. Traditionally, the tallest candidate also wins. PM Brown's reticence to get involved when the TV channels and the other two leaders had agreed to a debate was a classic political moment. Looking forward to the debate already !
What is making me cross, however, is the lack of democratic choice on the Lisbon treaty. If the EU is a democratic entity, surely residents of all countries should have an equal chance to have a referendum on this. Some have had the chance to vote once, Ireland twice ( Oh, the government thought you got the wrong answer the first time around... ) and we have had not had the chance to choose at all. It's a disgrace.
Finally, travel is one of my great passions. Earlier in the year, we decided that Ryan Air was no longer acceptable to use but we have always been happy with the service Easy Jet offers. Having booked to go with them to Venice next spring at a very good rate, we were very disappointed to hear five days later to hear that Easy Jet decided to stop flying from East Midlands airport. In terms of choosing their airport bases, I do have some sympathy with withdrawal from UK airports as other European airports have waived taxes to support tourism. What I object to is the limbo we are now in – we do not know if we have the flights so there is no point in arranging accomodation and by the end of the “consultation” period they claim they have, we could lose alternative early flight and accomodation deals.
It's the same with banks – when you pay for anything, your money is taken out of your account immediately. So why does it take DAYS to get cheques credited and refunds from shops back into your account? In this electronic age, repayment should be equally rapid.
As we slip into the dark short days of autumn, wrap up warm and cuddle your loved ones and enjoy the month ahead.
Best wishes,
Awen
